WWE Smackdown vs. RAW 2009 is the latest installment of THQ’s annual WWE franchise. The 2009 edition has taken a very different approach and stepped away from its previous incarnations with the removal of the 24/7 mode and GM mode and addition of many new features and game play tweaks. However with each new Smackdown vs. RAW title there has always been a main focus and this game’s major focus is the reworked tag team match and co-operative season mode.

The reworked tag team match has new additions such as new ways of tagging the player's tag team partner. These are moves such as reversible hot tag which can help save the player in the match if they are in trouble, and the forced blind tag, where the partner tags their self into the ring. The player's tag team partner also has more of a part to play in the match and aids the player for example by holding an opponent by the ropes while on the apron or by pulling down the ropes for an opponent dashing towards them, sending them out of the ring. Teams now also share their own momentum meter, attributes and double team finishers.

As a big fan of WWE on TV I am happy to see several matches ‘absent in previous games’ thankfully return to the series. The backstage brawl where players can battle in either the locker room or the backstage with a variety of weapons at their disposal, has returned and replaced the parking lot brawl match featured in the last game.

Writers’ Guild Award-nominee Rhianna Pratchett has been signed as scriptwriter for Overlord™II, the sequel to the hit twisted fantasy adventure from Triumph Studios, and both series extensions – Overlord™Dark Legend and Overlord™Minions – coming 2009, publisher Codemasters® announced today.

The announcement sees Pratchett continuing her role as writer and narrative designer for the delightfully despotic series and follows her nomination for Best Videogame Script for her work on the original Overlord game in the Writers’ Guild Awards 2008.
